Unraveling the Artistry of Chinese Silk Embroidery

Welcome to our immersive, 2-part workshop series on Shu Embroidery (蜀绣), an exquisite Chinese silk embroidery tradition dating back over 2,000 years!
Besides learning about Shu embroidery, our first session will cover the history and evolution of the main schools of Chinese embroidery. The second session will focus more on indigenous and regional styles, along with notable international brand collaborations.
There are two kits of varying difficulty levels for you to choose from, and we'll delve into the specifics of each stitching technique as well as a comprehensive step-by-step walkthrough of each kit:
- Session I: Panda Kit (easy beginner)
- Session II: Lotus Kit (medium difficulty)
Whether you're a complete beginner or an intermediate enthusiast, you will walk away with stunning, framed embroidery pieces to take home and display with pride. Join us on this journey through time, unraveling the intricate artistry and cultural significance of this ancient Chinese craft!
Materials:
- All materials will be provided.
- We currently have two kits for you to choose from: panda (easy beginner) or the lotus (medium difficulty)
- Kits include: hand-painted fabric, 100% silk threads, bamboo frame, embroidery scissors, embroidery needle, frame, embroidery hoops: bamboo (lotus) and plastic (panda)
Additional Note:
- The difficulty level and the time required to complete will depend on the kit you choose.
- Please note that depending on the participants’ experience with embroidery, progress may vary but we are more than happy to provide additional help afterwards.
- Detailed photo and video records of the process and various stitches, along with the instructional deck, will be sent to participants afterwards for reference.

- Session I: Sept 3rd, 1-4pm @ 18 Harrison Garden Blvd., North York, M2N 7J7
- Session II: Oct 15th, 1-4pm @ Textile Museum of Canada, 55 Centre Ave, Toronto, ON M5G 2H5
Each session is three hours long.
Kits & Packages (per person):
- Session I: Panda: $100
- Session II: Lotus: $125
- Package deal (for both sessions): $185
Includes full kit & materials. Early Bird ends Aug 23.
Cancellation Policy: Cancellations or changes must be made five days prior to your first class. We will issue a store credit, towards another class or products available at our online store.
