Miao batik or la ran (蜡染), from Guizhou, China, is a wax-resist dyeing technique that has been around since the Qin and Han dynasties. The pattern is drawn onto the fabric with melted beeswax which acts as a dye resist during the natural indigo dyeing process.

The scarf on display features geometric batik patterns and lively “ice cracks” which is achieved through the natural cracking from the dried wax. This piece is also very versatile, as you may wear it as a neck scarf, hair tie, or even as an accessory for your purses.

Care Guide

1. Not machine washable. Gently hand wash in cold water with a mild, neutral detergent.
a) Please separate from other garments as these are naturally dyed so may bleed.
b) Do not use bleach or any kind of detergent which contains a bleach additive.
c) Bleach will cause splotching of the indigo dye and damage the integrity of the garment or fabric.
2. Do not wring, and simply hang to dry. Try to also limit the exposure of direct, harsh sunlight.
